David Liss grew up playing basketball at the JCCSF. He went onto compete in the JCC Maccabi Games while in high school and he played basketball in college (both at Cal and Pitzer College). After college he came back to the Center and began coaching in the same youth basketball league he grew up playing in.

This week David is in Sao Paulo, Brazil as a member of the Team USA basketball team competing in the 2011 Pan American Maccabi Games David plays in the open division against some of the best Jewish basketball players in the world. It’s a true honor to be selected to the national team and we are all proud of David’s accomplishments, both on the court and in the person he has become; but wait, it gets better!!!…..

On December 28 in a game against the host country Brazil the score was tied 69-69 in the 4th period with about 2 seconds left on the clock. Team USA had the ball under their basket and called a time out. As the ball is inbounded David (wearing uniform #4) comes of a screen along the baseline to receive the inbound pass. Catching the ball in the corner and heavily guarded David pivots towards the basket and release his shot as the clock expires….
